How to Choose the Right High-Temperature Industrial Tape

If you're looking for an industrial tape that provides high-temperature protection during production, you may find the options overwhelming. Beyond heat resistance, industrial tapes also need to deliver fixation, electrical insulation, stable adhesion, and resistance to acids, alkalis and oils. That combination doesn't come cheap — so how do you find the right tape that meets your production requirements without overspending? The answer is knowing how to choose correctly.

01 — Types of High-Temperature Tape by Substrate and Application

PE Tape | Temperature range: -30°C to 100°C
Suitable for smooth surfaces, films, sheets, plastics and glass products.

PVC Tape | Temperature range: -50°C to 120°C
Suitable for hardware and electroplated parts requiring anti-oxidation protection.

PP Tape | Temperature range: -30°C to 150°C
Suitable for composite panels, mirror-finish hardware and plastic materials.

Polyimide Tape (PI / Kapton) | Temperature range: -269°C to 400°C
Strong electrical insulation. Used for reflow soldering fixation on flexible circuits, electronic component insulation and chip packaging.

PTFE Tape (Teflon) | Up to 260°C | Non-stick, chemically resistant
Used for heat sealer sealing belts, roller wrapping, food drying belts and anti-corrosion pipelines.

PET High-Temperature Tape | Up to 200°C | Clean removal, no residue
Used for PCB tin spraying masking, enclosure spray painting protection, LED potting and electroplating protection.

High-Temperature Masking Tape | 120°C to 180°C | Easy tear
Used for paint masking, architectural finishing and plastic part spray protection.

Fiberglass High-Temperature Tape | 300°C+ | High strength, abrasion resistant
Used for motor coil wrapping, high-temperature pipe sealing and fireproof curtain fixation.

Aluminum Foil High-Temperature Tape | Thermally conductive, flame retardant, EMI shielding
Used for automotive exhaust pipe repair, HVAC duct sealing and spacecraft thermal insulation.

High-Temperature Double-Sided Tape | 150°C to 230°C | Strong bonding
Used for appliance glass panel bonding, automotive badge fixation and LED strip installation.

Silicone Rubber High-Temperature Tape | Up to 250°C | Flexible, aging resistant
Used for new energy battery bundling, thermal management fixation and high-temperature sealing.

02 — Four Core Application Scenarios

1. High-Temperature Masking (Contamination & Penetration Protection)

  • Spray painting / powder coating: Masking areas not to be coated on automotive wheels, furniture and painted surfaces
  • PCB wave soldering: Protecting gold fingers and through-holes from solder contamination

2. High-Temperature Fixation & Bundling (Replacing Mechanical Fasteners)

  • Lithium battery electrode bundling: Silicone rubber tape resists electrolyte corrosion and remains bonded at 250°C
  • Spacecraft thermal insulation layer fixation: Polyimide tape withstands extreme temperature swings from -269°C to 400°C

3. Electrical Insulation & Protection (Short Circuit & Breakdown Prevention)

  • Motor coil insulation: Fiberglass tape rated at 300°C with breakdown voltage up to 5kV
  • Transformer copper foil shielding: Aluminum foil tape provides both static dissipation and high-temperature protection

4. Sealing & Repair (Leak Prevention & Emergency Fixes)

  • Automotive exhaust pipe cracks: Aluminum foil tape for instant repair, resistant to exhaust gas corrosion
  • High-temperature pipeline flanges: PTFE tape seals steam pipelines against chemical media

03 — Key Application Industries

Plastics, Hardware & Surface Processing

Injection molded part protection, hardware stamping, electroplating, polishing and spray painting protection, glass printing protection — various surface protection tapes are widely used across these processes.

Electronics & Electrical Industry

  • PCB protection: Polyimide tape masks gold fingers during reflow and wave soldering to prevent solder contamination
  • Component fixation & insulation: PET green tape for resistors and capacitors; polyimide tape for transformer coil wrapping and lithium battery electrode bundling
  • Wire & cable processing: PTFE tape wrapping for high-temperature electrical insulation

Automotive Manufacturing

  • Engine & exhaust pipe sealing: PTFE tape for oil-resistant, wear-resistant sealing of high-temperature pipelines
  • Spray painting protection: Masking tape / PET tape to mask non-painted areas of vehicle bodies, rated for paint baking temperatures

Aerospace & Heavy Industry

  • Extreme environment protection: Polyimide tape for rocket engine thermal insulation and aircraft component fixation — rated for high pressure and extreme temperatures
  • Equipment anti-corrosion sealing: PTFE tape wrapping for metallurgical furnaces and chemical pipelines, resistant to chemical corrosion

Printing, Packaging & Light Industry

  • Printing processes: Masking tape for paper fixation — solvent resistant and clean removal
  • Food & textile machinery: PTFE tape as conveyor belt lining — non-stick and easy to clean

Emerging & Cross-Industry Applications

  • New energy batteries: Polyimide tape for lithium battery electrode fixation, resistant to electrolyte corrosion
  • Building materials processing: PET tape for edge protection during high-temperature cutting of glass and ceramics
